Characteristics

This white, silvery-shimmering cosmetic pigment consists of mica coated with titanium dioxide. At higher dosages, it produces a radiant white shimmer, while at lower dosages it provides a subtle glitter effect.

Since it is a mineral pigment, it is neither soluble in water nor in oil. It must therefore be evenly dispersed in the oil phase to achieve a fine distribution in the final product and the desired color effect.

Thin lipids such as Liposens are suitable for optimally dispersing pigments in cosmetic formulations, as they wet the pigments well. To ensure that the pigments remain evenly distributed, additional lipids or film-forming and lipophilic substances should be used to stabilize the dispersion. Lipoblend Hydrosoft, Flexibond, Waxblend Hydrosoft, hydrolyzed sunflower wax, and EmuLite are well-suited for this purpose.

This combination enables even distribution and prevents the pigments from settling or clumping. This also optimizes distribution on the skin and significantly improves the color result and opacity.

It is frequently used in decorative cosmetic products such as lipsticks, lip gloss, and eyeshadows. Furthermore, it is also used in emulsions and skincare products to give the skin a slight shimmer. It can also be used in surfactant-based products or solid cosmetics such as shampoo bars and soaps to create a pearlescent effect.
