Stable vitamin C for radiant skin!

Vitamin C is a natural component of the skin and plays a key role in protection, regeneration, and radiance. It is one of the most effective antioxidant substances and is known for regulating melanin formation, neutralizing free radicals, and visibly reducing the signs of photoaging. Unfortunately, it is a very unstable molecule and loses its efficacy within a few days when dissolved in water.

Ascorbyl glucoside is a highly stable, water-soluble form of vitamin C. Due to the stable bond with a glucose molecule, the active ingredient remains stable in cosmetic formulations for significantly longer. Once in the skin, ascorbyl glucoside is enzymatically broken down, releasing ascorbic acid (active vitamin C) in a time-delayed manner – for sustainable yet skin-friendly performance, also ideal for sensitive skin, which often does not tolerate pure ascorbic acid well.

However, to ensure optimal stability, it requires a slightly higher pH value than is typical for cosmetic products. It is most stable between 6.5 and 6.8. The addition of other antioxidants to the formulation (e.g., Anti-Ox Emulsion) also increases the stability of ascorbyl glucoside.

Vitamin C is one of the best-studied active ingredients in the cosmetic field. Ascorbyl glucoside combines the high biological activity of L-ascorbic acid with exceptional stability in cosmetic formulations. It is resistant to oxidation and discoloration and retains its effectiveness even under demanding formulation conditions.

Protection, radiance, and anti-aging for the skin

Ascorbyl glucoside supports the skin on multiple levels: it specifically inhibits tyrosinase activity, thereby reducing melanin production – a central factor for an even complexion and the reduction of hyperpigmentation. At the same time, it acts as a powerful antioxidant and protects the skin from UV-induced free radicals as well as inflammatory processes. As a result, the active ingredient contributes to a clearer, more balanced complexion and is ideal for preventing blemishes.

Antioxidant activity & skin regeneration

Oxidative stress is one of the main triggers of premature skin aging. Ascorbyl glucoside is effective against free radicals and protects cells from UV-induced damage. Furthermore, it is important for the formation of new collagen and contributes to improved skin elasticity. Ascorbyl glucoside is the agent of choice, particularly for day care, sun protection products, or formulations intended to smooth the skin.

Usage concentration and processing

• 0.5 - 2% in skincare products (typically 1 - 2%)
• easily water-soluble
• incorporate below 55 degrees
• recommended pH of the final product is 5 - 7 - preferably 6.5 - 6.8
• do not expose to highly acidic or basic conditions during processing
• requires a buffer system to keep the pH stable (citric acid + arginine)

TIP: We recommend dissolving ascorbyl glucoside + citric acid in water and then increasing the pH with arginine until it just exceeds 6.5.
