Abrasives (cleaning agents) in toothpastes and other dental cleaning products have long been used to support the cleaning performance of the brush. These substances are intended to "polish away" deposits and removable discoloration. However, it is important that these abrasives are not so hard or sharp-edged that they can attack the tooth enamel at the same time. While tooth enamel is the hardest material the human body has to offer, even microscopically small "injuries" could lead to increased plaque accumulation. As a result, bacteria can also collect there and lead to cavities. For this reason, it is important to use abrasives that are softer than tooth enamel.

Silicic acid is a simple silicon-containing compound. Through flame hydrolysis, it is possible to cross-link the tiny molecules of silicic acid into somewhat larger agglomerates. This allows for the production of custom-made particles of different sizes that can deliver optimal performance.

Particles of different sizes are used for dental care - depending on how much abrasion is desired. But the hardness, shape, size distribution, and concentration of the substances also determine the efficiency of the abrasion. For SilBright, we have opted for a very small grain size. Therefore, the product is also perfectly suitable for sensitive teeth, sensitive gums, and children's teeth. Nevertheless, the cleaning performance is so pronounced that a pleasantly smooth and clean feeling remains after brushing.

SilBright can be used for traditional toothpastes (creams, gels, etc.) or in anhydrous products such as tooth powder or tooth cleaning tablets. In water-based products, it also has a slight thickening effect as a consistency agent, but should still be used together with a gelling agent such as Xanthan Sense.
