This is important to achieve a skin-friendly pH level (approx. 5.5 - 6). Many ingredients also require a certain pH level in the final product to be effective. This applies in particular to preservatives.
Our Preblend Aqua, for example, like other organic acids, requires an acidic pH level. Ideally, this should be below 5.5. Liquid surfactant formulations also benefit from a slightly acidic pH level with improved consistency.
Measuring pH level correctly
Hold the test strip in your finished product for 1 second and wait 30 seconds. Compare the colors on the test strip with those on the color scale.
Is the pH level not right?
You can lower the pH level by adding citric acid. You can increase it by adding baking soda or sodium hydroxide solution. Always use prepared solutions (25% citric acid/baking soda, 75% water) to correct the pH level.
