The architect for a strong skin structure!
One of the most important tasks of our skin is protection against external influences. The so-called skin barrier plays a decisive role in this. You can think of it like a protective wall: the corneocytes (horny cells) are the "bricks," held together by a lipid-rich "cement."
The elasticity and firmness of the skin depend significantly on the moisture content of this outer layer – the stratum corneum. An intact skin barrier helps regulate the loss of moisture (transepidermal water loss, TEWL) and ensures a healthy moisture balance. This keeps the skin resilient and protected from harmful environmental influences.
These lipid layers of the skin consist essentially of:
- Ceramides (40 %)
- free fatty acids (25 %)
- and cholesterol (25 %)
Ceramides therefore play a major role in our skin, even in terms of quantity, as they contribute significantly to the internal cohesion of the lipid layers. They are long-chain, waxy substances with a very high melting point (over 90 degrees), which is why they are generally not easy to process, as they tend to crystallize out and are then no longer bioavailable.
CeraFluid is a skin-identical ceramide that is already pre-dissolved in a special oil matrix derived from olive oil. It can thus be effortlessly incorporated into the warm oil phase and dissolves even at low temperatures above 40 degrees. In addition, the oil matrix promotes the penetration of active ingredients, is itself moisturizing, and gives the skin more suppleness.
CeraFluid has an extremely positive effect on a weakened skin barrier and is the ideal active ingredient for sensitive, irritated, or dry skin. Furthermore, it enhances the effect in protective and weather-protection products and protects the skin from moisture loss due to dryness or frequent washing.
Ceramides are also extremely valuable in anti-aging and for mature skin. They reduce the appearance of wrinkles, improve skin elasticity, and ensure smoother skin overall.
Ceramides also occur naturally in the hair and act like a "cement" that holds the cuticle layer together and protects the hair. However, they can be lost due to external influences such as heat, chemical treatments, or UV rays, leading to dry and brittle hair. In hair care, ceramides help to strengthen the hair structure, smooth the cuticle layer, retain moisture, and reduce hair breakage. This makes CeraFluid particularly interesting for the care of dry, damaged, or colored hair.
CeraFluid can be incorporated into emulsions, sticks, and balms, i.e., products with a certain consistency. In completely liquid oils, it would not remain completely dissolved or would settle.
Recommended concentration and processing
- 0.5 – 2 % in skin products
- 0.1 – 0.5 % in hair products
- stir into the hot oil phase (already melted) at the end
- can be processed at temperatures as low as 40 degrees
