Characteristics

A light, medium-spreading lipid component for emulsions and oil products. Protects the skin from moisture loss and has a gently refatting effect.

Squalane is a colorless, oily substance that is very well-tolerated because it occurs in a similar form (squalene) in our sebum (skin oil). Squalene has antioxidant properties and thus protects our skin from free radicals. However, it is itself very susceptible to oxidation and therefore has a short shelf life. Squalane differs from squalene in its chemical form and no longer possesses these antioxidant properties. In return, it is an outstandingly stable oil and can therefore also be used for products for very sensitive skin or for baby skin, and is also highly heat-resistant.

Squalane can be obtained from shark liver - hence the name (Squalus = Lat. shark). Nowadays, however, it is usually obtained from plant sources, such as olive oil. Our squalane, on the other hand, is produced via a special fermentation of sugar. This enables a particularly high purity of the raw material and ensures extraordinary stability as well as better tolerance than other squalane qualities.

Furthermore, it is considered a lipid with medium spreading capacity, absorbs quickly, and gives every product a very soft finish. Its special chemical structure allows for long distribution on the skin (playtime) and also preserves the skin's moisture and suppleness. This is appreciated not only in facial care but also in body lotions, body oils, and massage oils. Squalane can also be used in hair care, where it gives slightly dry to dry hair suppleness, shine, and improves combability.
