Characteristics

For an extra-soft and well-nourished skin feel - non-greasy - non-sticky!

SoftEster can be considered a solid fat. Unlike butters (e.g., cocoa butter, or Vegemelt), however, it is not a triglyceride but a linear ester. This places it in our product line of Liposens or Hydromollient.

Linear ester oils are characterized by faster absorption and good spreadability. They also leave a "non-greasy" skin feel. SoftEster is the solid version in this ester series, making it feel significantly more enveloping and nourishing than its liquid counterparts. However, the effect upon application to the skin and the subsequent feel is quite different from that of plant butters.

It is an ideal supplement for all products where the following is desired:

• soft, enveloping skin feel
• low grease and shine
• delicately melting texture

Due to its solid consistency, it can also be used as a co-consistency agent. It gives emulsions and balms a certain "body" and a creamier, richer structure. This softens upon application to the skin due to body heat, yet blends easily with the skin structure.

These properties make SoftEster perfect for hand creams, where it can be used simply as a valuable part of the fat phase. But SoftEster also excels in face and body products with its pleasantly softening properties. In lip products, sticks, and balms, it can also be used in a higher percentage of the fat phase. This provides a certain "base consistency" and a supple, non-greasy skin feel.

Another popular use for SoftEster is in hair care products, as it makes the hair structure very soft, protects it, and adds a certain richness to cream conditioners and hair masks. You should consider SoftEster especially for intensive treatments. Just 1-2.5% provides a significantly better-nourished and "moisturised" hair feel. However, this is mainly recommended for products for dry and straw-like hair. It should be avoided for fine hair.

Recommended concentration and processing

• 0.5 - 5% in emulsions (1 - 2.5% for a light, soft skin feel)
  
• 5 - 20% in balms and sticks (e.g., lip care)
• 0.5 - 2.5% in hair conditioners and masks
• melt in the oil phase
• melting point 43 - 47 degrees
