Characteristics

A plant-based fat that provides consistency and can be used in both emulsions and stick and balm products. It has a noticeable, rich effect on the skin and is primarily used for dry skin.

Organic cocoa butter is obtained from cocoa beans and has a delicate scent. It contains a high proportion of the long-chain, saturated fatty acids palmitic and stearic acid, making it relatively firm compared to other butters; it also has a higher melting point. Cocoa butter therefore gives products more consistency and creates firmer products than, for example, shea butter.

In stick products or balms, it provides significant inherent consistency and has an enveloping effect without feeling too greasy. However, it should be noted that cocoa butter is comedogenic (pore-clogging) and should only be used to a limited extent in facial products, primarily for dry skin conditions.

When processing, cocoa butter should not be heated to too high a temperature or for too long, as it can crystallize upon cooling. We recommend adding it at the end of the fully melted oil phase.

Usage concentration and processing

• 1 - 5% in emulsions

• 3 - 30% in sticks and balms

• use as part of the oil phase (add after the melting process!)
