In the world of the cosmetics industry, there are constant changes that manufacturers and sellers of cosmetic products should keep an eye on. Especially in Austria and across the entire EU, there have recently been some important changes to Austrian natural cosmetics law and the EU Cosmetics Regulation.
Austrian natural cosmetics law in transition
Austrian natural cosmetics law is primarily regulated by Chapter B33 of the Austrian Food Codex (Österreichisches Lebensmittelbuch). This chapter defines which cosmetic products may be labeled as natural cosmetics. Recently, this chapter has undergone a comprehensive revision, which opens up new formulations and products for cosmetic manufacturers. Mag. Wolfgang Lederhaas, the Federal Spokesperson for commercial cosmetic manufacturers of Austria at the Austrian Economic Chambers (Wirtschaftskammer Österreich), will present the significant changes in the new natural cosmetics law in an exclusive preview.
EU Cosmetics Regulation: Labeling of fragrance allergens
The EU Cosmetics Regulation is another crucial area that has experienced changes in recent months. One of the most important changes concerns the labeling of fragrance allergens in cosmetic products. Dr. Doris Plank, safety assessor and authorized expert according to § 73 LMSVG, will enlighten us about the significant changes, including the introduction of an additional 56 fragrance allergens and the changes in Annex III. Furthermore, she will explain which deadlines must be observed by cosmetic producers.

About the experts
Mag. Wolfgang Lederhaas is the Federal Spokesperson for commercial cosmetic manufacturers of Austria (Austrian Economic Chambers) and Master of the Chemical Trades at the Vienna Economic Chamber. He is a member of numerous expert panels where he co-negotiated the legal framework for natural cosmetics, a member of the board of the Austrian Chemical Society, and teaches at the University of Applied Sciences Joanneum Graz and the University of Applied Sciences Wiener Neustadt, among others, and is a course director at the Wifi Vienna. In addition, he is the owner and managing director of the company LEDERHAAS Cosmetics (Natural and Organic Cosmetics).

As a chemist with a doctorate and authorized safety assessor according to § 73 LMSVG, Doris works intensively on the composition and (toxicological) effect of modern natural cosmetics and creates product information files (PIF) for her clients, including safety reports for cosmetic products in accordance with EU Cosmetics Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009 as well as its supplementary provisions.
