DIY Cosmetics - 7 Benefits

The great benefits of homemade cosmetics

Have you thought about making your own cosmetics before, but haven't dared to do it yet?

At the latest when the body provides the first signs that it is out of balance, e.g. through an itchy scalp or reddened skin, we begin to look more intensively at the ingredients of purchased products. We read recommendations, study raw materials and are often completely overwhelmed as to which product we should choose. Added to this is the frustration when the desired effect does not materialize or other side effects occur.

Making your own cosmetics often sounds very difficult to many at the beginning. But in truth, it is similar to cooking and, with good recipes, easy for beginners to learn as well.

In this article, we will tell you about the advantages of making your own skincare and hair care products.

Benefit 1

Good for body, mind and soul

Mixing is incredibly fun and is very inspiring and soothing. Similar to baking cookies, I look forward to the next mixing session for days in advance and to all the wonderful products that come from it.

When I started with cosmetics, I was initially fascinated by learning about the raw materials and recreating ready-made recipes. Step by step, I dared more and more to implement my own ideas and to use new raw materials for special needs. Of course, not everything always worked out. How proud I was when I got the hang of it.

Today, I love creating my own recipes and producing them with a lot of love. A highlight for me is always choosing the fragrance and designing the labels.

Creating things yourself and building them with your own hands is simply good for us humans, especially in the digital age. Personally, I am convinced that a lovingly, mindfully crafted product works better than industrial products. Practicing this hobby together with dear friends or family members is connecting and simply beautiful.

You also learn important things about chemistry, active ingredients and, of course, your body when you produce your own cosmetics.

BENEFIT 2

Perfectly tailored to you

No one knows your body as well as you do yourself. Depending on their level of knowledge, a professional expert can probably tell you more about the condition of your skin and hair, but ultimately it is your body that gives you feedback on what it tolerates and what is good for it.

When you create your own cosmetics, you don't just select exactly the ingredients that are good for your body. You can adjust the formulation step-by-step until it serves you perfectly and contains only or exactly what you really need. This is particularly easy because you can leave ingredients out or change the dosage until you achieve what you want.

BENEFIT 3

Conscious consumption

Many cosmetic products contain substances such as formaldehyde, parabens or fragrances, which can, among other things, trigger allergies, are classified as questionable, and can even make you ill or dependent. Unfortunately, for many industrial products from large corporations, raw materials are not chosen based on ecological and health aspects, but on financial ones.

Quality also plays a role. Have you ever enjoyed a freshly picked peach? Compared to a canned peach or perhaps an unripe product from the supermarket, there is no comparison. It is similar with cosmetic products. The higher the quality of the ingredients, the more satisfied you will be with the effect.

You make the choice of what goes on your skin.

BENEFIT 4

Variety and flexibility

Depending on the season, weather, hormonal status, and life circumstances, the body needs different care, which you can easily adjust with homemade cosmetics. In summer, for example, I prefer to shower with fruity shampoos, while in winter I prefer creamy consistencies. For skin creams, I use rich, protective products when it is cold, while on hot days I create creams with a lighter, less heavy texture. Just as I prefer to eat ice cream in the summer and absolutely love soups in the winter.

BENEFIT 5

An important contribution to environmental protection

You can significantly reduce plastic & Co. by reusing jars & Co. and only mixing the amount you really need (or want to give away). Instead of using environmentally harmful substances like microplastics or petroleum waste products, you help protect the environment through your conscious use of natural raw materials. Also, unnecessarily produced products no longer end up in the trash, for example because they were not sold or were not well tolerated.

BENEFIT 6

Better price-performance ratio

Products with good, expensive raw materials are usually only found in high-priced luxury cosmetics. If you create your own cosmetics, you can afford these ingredients and create much higher-quality products for the same amount of money.

Furthermore, you save money, as you do not have to advertise your own product, nor pay for production or expensive packaging. Thus, homemade cosmetics are, all in all, significantly cheaper.

BENEFIT 7

Great for giving as gifts

It is not only the production of cosmetics that is fulfilling. Cosmetics can be beautifully packaged and are a nice gift for occasions such as Mother's Day, birthdays or simply to say thank you. Tip: Pay attention to the needs of the recipient when making them (e.g. allergies, skin type, health problems).

As you can see, there are plenty of reasons in favor of making your own cosmetics.
